You will see that we have raised our target to $150,000 thanks to a pledge from our downtown neighbours, the Cabbagetown Neighbourhood Association for Syrian Refugee Assistance. This group has pledged to raise funds for a LGBT family, recognizing that this is a group at high risk and that we have a strong community to support them. To support this goal, please click on the Donate button and be sure to note ‘Cabbagetown’ so your donation will be attributed to this effort.
We have been overwhelmed with the strong support from the community, both individuals and groups like the DECA (Danforth East Community Association) and the Cabbagetown NASRA.

Friends of The Neighbourhood Group is a group of volunteers, staff and friends who have joined with The Neighbourhood Group to sponsor Syrian refugees in the current crisis.
The Neighbourhood Group is in a unique position to make a difference in people’s lives every day. It is a recent amalgamation of Central Neighbourhood House and Neighbourhood Link Support Services, two organizations with long traditions of supporting people who have come to Canada to escape famine, war and corruption in all corners of the world.
As a not-for-profit agency we provide a wide range of programs and services in Toronto’s downtown and east end. And by working with Lifeline Syria we will ensure we have the best chance of success in quickly bringing refugee families to safety in Canada
Sponsoring a refugee family means we will raise enough money to help them with basic needs for a year and support them in their efforts to settle in Canada; immigration processes, language training, school for the children, employment training, housing and social integration.
Staff, Board members and our neighbours are being asked to help us by becoming part of that support team or donating money, for which we issue a tax deductible receipt.
Every dollar you donate to this project will go directly to supporting the basic needs of our sponsored refugee families in their first year in Canada. No money will be diverted to administration or general programs.
